- DEOS-L. Discussions on the Distance Education Online Symposium touch on educational theory, technology, conferences, job postings, and more.
- EARLI. The European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction enables more than 1,000 members from 40 countries to engage in critical dialogue on instructional and educational research.
- Elearningpost. Elearningpost is a Weblog and digest of daily links to articles and news stories on such topics as corporate learning, instructional design, and knowledge management. The site includes feature articles, special reports, and more.
- eModerators. This discussion list focuses on the role of facilitators or moderators in computer-mediated and Web-based discussion lists.
- NETTRAIN. Here's an international discussion list for Internet trainers. Nettrain claims among its members librarians, computer professionals, educators, consultants, and others who teach Internet use.
- Online Facilitation. This listserv discusses the skills, techniques, and issues of facilitation for online environments and virtual communities.
- ROInet. This list aims to help HRD professionals evaluate the business impact of training and development efforts. Topics include measuring return-on-investment in HR and organization development, e-learning, EPSS, and knowledge management.
- Service-Learning Discussion Group. The SL List is a service to those in higher education interested in service-learning. It's owned by Communications for a Sustainable Future (CSF) and hosted by the University of Colorado at Boulder.
- Trdev. Replaces David Passmore's popular training and development list.
- WBTOLL-L. The Web-Based Training/Online Learning discussion list from The Training Place is a service for training developers and managers, educators, students, and others who are using (or considering) online training and learning programs.
DISTANCE LEARNING/E-LEARNING
- CIO E-Learning Research Center. An offshoot of CIO magazine, the center provides an overview of e-learning technology, as well as sections on planning, design, and implementation, numerous articles, events, and metrics.
- CRDLT. As the Website for the Centre for Research and Development in Learning Technology, CRDLT provides information on ongoing projects, access to several publications and presentations on learning technology, and a list of useful resources relating to e-learning.
- Distance Education Clearinghouse. A project of the University of Wisconsin-Extension, the Distance Education Clearinghouse offers DE news, conferences, program resources, funding, and legislation information.
- Distance-Educator. This site provides in-depth coverage of the world of distance education. Registered users have access to editorials and feature articles written by Fred Saba, daily news, a distance education e-zine, and an extensive selection of resources.
- Distance Learning on the Net. This independently-operated site offers assistance in finding distance education classes, colleges, programs, and resources. Resources include links to conferences and events, teaching resources, and vendors.
- eCLIPSE. A spin-off of the UK-based e-Learning Centre, eCLIPSE (e-Learning Centre's e-Learning Intelligence Service: People, Systems, and Environments) provides a showcase of e-learning examples, a library of resources and articles, links to e-learning-related organizations and vendors providing e-learning solutions, and more. Access is provided through a free subscription.
- eLearners.com. This site is geared for the online learner and provides an extensive database of distance learning courses, degrees, and schools. Also included are 30 FAQ's and articles regarding e-learning, links and information in 14 categories, and a products and services section to assist e-learners.
- E-Learning Centre. Established in 1994, the E-Learning Centre is the largest, independent European resource site on e-learning. The site includes a list of reading resources, including whitepapers, research reports, and journal articles; a showcase of online courses and learning materials; links to various vendor offerings; and a calendar of learning events. Additional resources are available to registered users, such as the center's pick of the best in e-learning.
- E-Learning Guild. A community of practice for instructional designers, content developers, consultants, and directors of training--or anyone with an interest in e-learning design, development, and management. The Guild also publishes the E-Learning Developers' Journal, which includes feature articles by industry experts and members. Association membership is free.
- The E-Learning Guru.“Life is short. Have fun, learn, and have fun helping others learn,” reads the tagline from Kevin Kruse’s e-learning Website and community. Kruse has years of experience in the industry, but defers the title of guru to the many visitors and contributors who frequent the site, which, by the way, offers loads of how-to articles, a toolbox full of templates and calculators, dozens of white papers, book summaries, and an extensive links section.
- E-Learning Standards. This Website is a portal to the current standards efforts regarding e-learning. Links are accompanied by in-depth descriptions of the related Website and the standards it addresses.
- E-learningZone. An e-learning information and resources forum based in the UK. Resources are grouped into three categories: strategy, learning design and development, and technology.
- International Centre for Distance Learning. Here's a UK-based organization that's an online storehouse of such information as distance learning courses, institutions, publications, conferences, and reference books.
- International Distance Learning Course Finder. Created by International WHERE + HOW, based in Bonn, Germany, this online directory lists more than 50,000 distance learning courses from over 127 countries, and bills itself as the "largest e-learning course portal in the world." Dlcoursefinder.com is part of the larger Internet Course Finder network.
- InternetTime.com. This site follows what’s hot in e-learning. Participate in Jay Cross’s e-learning blog or get up to speed with the site’s e-learning jump page. There’s something of interest for anyone interested in e-learning.
- ODELUCE. The Open and Distance Education and Learning Though Continuing University Education Website is run by Scotland’s University of Stirling. The site provides a selection of timely papers on e-learning and links to several European learning Websites.
- Office of Learning Technologies. This Quebec-based organization was established by the Canadian government within Human Resources Development Canada to expand innovative learning opportunities for Canadians via learning technologies. It offers extensive databases of conferences, listservs, distance learning news, literature, and electronic journals.
- SmarterOrg. This site provides online courses designed specifically for non-profit organizations. It also features an extensive non-profit e-learning resources section, including whitepapers, case studies, links, and a free newsletter.
- Training Business E-Visory. Geared to training and e-learning executives, this free monthly email advisory provides how-to information on targeting breakthrough course offerings and improving sales and marketing effectiveness. The service claims to have more than 3300 subscribers, including 400+ training and e-learning company owners and CEOs.
- U.S. Distance Learning Association. This nonprofit association promotes the development and application of distance learning for education and training in schools, defense, the workplace, and higher and continuing education.
- U.S. News E-Learning Directory. U.S. News, noted for its rankings of universities and colleges, provides this online e-learning directory of undergraduate and graduate courses, certificates, and degrees. The listing is compiled from surveys of over 2000 traditional colleges and virtual universities. In addition, there are feature articles, an e-learning search of programs and courses, and an online forum of experts and peers.
- WorldWideLearn.com. Billed as the “world's largest directory of online courses, accredited online degrees, continuing education, online training, and online education,” there’s no evidence to dispute it. The site offers hundreds of online courses and learning resources in 144 subject areas. Listings include courses offered by educational institutions, companies, and individuals from across the globe.
EDUCATION SECTOR
- The Annenberg/CPB Project. This ongoing partnership between the Annenberg Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting helps colleges, universities, high schools, and community organizations use telecommunications technologies to improve learning for students, including the growing number of older, part-time, and informal learners.
- Ericae.net. The ERIC Clearinghouse on Assessment and Evaluation at the University of Maryland, Department of Measurement, Statistics, and Evaluation offers a database of more than one million abstracts of education articles and resources. The assessment library alone boasts 350-plus full-text articles and books. You'll also find the Practical Assessment, Research, and Evaluation online journal here.
- University Access Disabilities Resources. The UA site offers resources supporting the distance learning needs of persons with disabilities. You'll find information on legislation, research, advocacy, media accessibility, and organizations.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) TRAINING
- Computer Education Management Association. The CEdMA site offers a forum in which managers can discuss critical training and business issues facing high-tech companies.
- Computing Technology Industry Association. CompTIA offers IT certification information, computing policy news, legislative alerts, and congressional links.
- Information Technology Training Association. This is the international trade association for professionals and companies involved in the IT training industry.
- Institute of IT Training. This UK-based site offers information on the institute's certification programs, professional development, group networking, and membership.
- TechRepublic. Here you'll find technology and learning resources for IT trainers, including reading lists, surveys, training articles, and presentation materials.
INTERNATIONAL SITES
- AHCIET. E-learning site of The Hispanic American Research Centres and Telecommunications Companies Association. Content is in Spanish and includes recent e-learning news from Latin America and the rest of the world; articles and papers about international conferences; links to regional and international educational organizations; databases of Latin American education ministers and universities; and a catalogue of AHCIET's distance learning courses.
- e-learning central. A central resource for developers and users of e-learning materials. Site includes articles, a glossary, and multimedia resources relating to e-learning.
- E-Learning Eye. The Eye provides a “helicopter view” of current e-learning developments in Scotland.
- E-learningZone. An e-learning information and resources forum based in the UK. Resources are grouped into three categories: strategy, learning design and development, and technology.
- Global Alliance for Transnational Education. GATE is an international alliance of business, higher education, and government that advocates for quality transnational educational programs. It offers best practices and certification to help organizations develop and evaluate education across national borders.
- Institute of Training and Occupational Learning (ITOL). The Institute of Training and Occupational Learning is a UK-based professional institute providing a range of membership services to the training and development profession. The site contains details of membership levels, membership services, information on UK training qualifications, selected articles from the ITOL Journal, news from the world of training, and more.
- The Node Learning Technologies Network. The Node is a Canadian not-for-profit organization that promotes effective uses of Internet technology in training and education. It offers publications, workshops, research and consulting services, online resources, and electronic forums.
- Training and Development Canada. As part of the Public Service Commission of Canada, Training and Development Canada (TDC) provides resources to satisfy the learning needs of Canada's federal public servants. Included are course directories, consulting services, and related links.
- TrainingZONE. Great Britain's online community for training and HR professionals. Training news, resources and activities to download, shopping mall, communities, and much more.
- UNESCO Chair of Distance Education. This Website, promoted and developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization chair of distance education, is a Latin American resource center for distance education and virtual learning. The site provides links to publications, information on national and international distance learning associations, discussion groups, and other resources.
JOB CONNECTIONS
- ASTD Online Job Bank. This service allows you to post job openings and search training- and HRD-related jobs by employer, keyword, location, education level, experience, duration, and such areas of practice as sales training, Web-based authoring, and instructional design.
- CareerPath.com. This site offers job listings by location, industry, employer, and job category. You can also research companies, search for job fairs and internships in your area, sample a Brainbench certification test, and post your organization's job openings.
- Monster Executive Salary and Compensation. Here's a portal page for links to numerous salary and compensation Websites.
- MonsterLearning.com. A spin-off of online job search site Monster.com, MonsterLearning offers news, profiles, and articles on learning and adult education. In addition, the site has active online communities and a comprehensive list of links to information on topics such as distance learning, information technology, and business and management.
- O*NET (the Occupational Information Network Academy). O*NET provides training and e-learning solutions for workforce development professionals. Online learning tools and classes are incorporated with occupational and labor market research, enabling users to research careers, conduct skill assessment, and look for new jobs.
- The Training Registry. A directory of trainers, consultants, training seminars and workshops, computer labs and classrooms, and keynote speakers. Site also includes Website marketing, hosting, and Webmaster services. Not-for-profit organizations and associations receive a free listing in the registry's association section.
- WorkplaceDiversity.com. This job-search site was created for corporate recruiters in search of experienced diversity candidates, and for diverse workers in search of information and resources. It is a branch of the eQuest network of employment Websites.

- CIO Knowledge Management Resource Center. The CIO.com site offers KM resources, links, and articles.
- Knowledge Management Magazine. Here's a publication for executives who want to leverage their organization's information and intellectual assets.
- KM World. Online extension of KM World magazine. Serves the knowledge management systems market, informing its readers of the KM components and processes--and related success stories--that together offer solutions for improving your business performance.
- @brint.com Virtual Library on Knowledge Management. You'll find an abundance of KM data--white papers, quotes, commentary, publications, a discussion forum, and more--at this site.
- The Knowledge Management Resource Center. On this site you'll find a comprehensive collection of KM resources, each of them reviewed and briefly described to help you quickly locate what you're looking for. Site includes 17 departments, a bookstore, keyword search, and frequently updated articles and news items.

- Alynn & Bacon Public Speaking Website. This site is loaded with useful speaking information and links. Learn to assess your speechmaking situation, analyze an audience, research a topic, organize and write a speech, and deliver a presentation. There are also "notes from the instructor" and interactive exercises to guide you.
- Bartlett's Familiar Quotations. Looking for a memorable quote for your next presentation or speech? You can search for it by keyword or by author (from Chaucer to Shakespeare to Rutherford B. Hayes) in this classic resource.
- Presentations.com. This site offers help with creating and delivering presentations--and the technology that helps fuel it. You'll also find IT news, tools, and vital training-industry Web links.
- Presenters Online. You'll find power tips, presentation templates, clip art, tutorials, case studies, and articles at this site. Registration is required for the free, enhanced-version "Presenter's Club." Also available: Presenters Online Mobile Services that links you to travel, lodging, shipping, and computer support sites.
- Presenters University. This site offers presentation how-tos, an Ask the Professor Q&A, links to presentation seminars, and a multimedia center of presentation templates and clip art. - Virtual Presentation Assistant. This site is maintained by the communication studies department at the University of Kansas. You'll find research resources, delivery tips, visual aids help, and links to other presentation sites.

- European Telework Online. Here's the European and international center for information, news, and discussion on telework, teletrade, and telecooperation.
- International Telework Association. If you're looking for telecommuting links to publications, organizations, and studies, this is a great place to start.
- Quicken.com. This site's small business home is packed with useful information: news and trends, business forms, an industry library, an entrepreneur's exchange, and topics ranging from accounting to starting a business.
- Small Business Administration. Good starting point for small business information. Site includes news, calendar, site of the week, and answer desk. Also includes sub-sites for starting and financing your own business, business opportunities, regulatory information, and outside resources.
WEB-BASED TRAINING RESOURCES
- America's Learning eXchange. This government-sponsored site offers searchable databases of classroom and online courses, CBT, conference workshops, seminars, training suppliers, and certifying agencies. There are separate search and service areas for four user categories: students and adult learners, HR managers and small-business managers, training providers, and courseware and online developers.
- Lguide. Lguide.com provides detailed and comparative reviews of personal, professional, and academic online courses. Also includes a course wizard that helps you select the best course for your needs, and a resource room that offers one-stop shopping for e-learning research, events, articles, and newsletters.
- Library of Congress. The Internet Resource page includes links to Net training guides, tutorials, and other wired resources.
- Online Educational Delivery Applications: A Web Tool for Comparative Analysis. This site by a Canadian educational team is designed to help you evaluate and select Web-based training software and products. You can review the specifications for a product you're considering, enter criteria to receive a list of products meeting your needs, or rank criteria to receive a custom evaluation. Forty-two products are reviewed and 60 have review pending. You'll also find links to related sites and additional reviews.
- Training Media Review. This site offers objective training product reviews, an opt-in newsletter, tips, and tools for people who evaluate, purchase, and use such business training products as videos, CBT, and online courses.
- Web-Based Training Information Center. Here's a resource for people interested in developing and delivering WBT, online learning, and distance education. You'll find surveys, discussion forums, resource links, a WBT primer, and lots more.

- ADE (Accessibility in Distance Education). The ADE site explains accessibility problems that students with disabilities are likely to encounter in navigating Web-based resources, and shows faculty members how they can address and resolve these problems. The site also seeks to provide faculty with information about different types of disabilities, relevant laws, and best accessibility practices.
- Conferzone. This site is an objective e-conferencing resource that tracks the latest trends and technology in the e-conferencing marketplace. Visitors can sign up for a free monthly e-conferencing e-newsletter and access product reviews, news, whitepapers, tools, and Webcasts. There’s also a learning glossary and an extensive list of conferencing vendors.
- Multimedia Development Tools. Maintained by a multimedia research group at Georgia Tech, this collection of checklists, matrices, questionnaires and more can help guide the process of multimedia analysis, design, management, production, and evaluation.
- Webmonkey. An irreverent site for those working with the Web. The site explains new technology and its applications; looks at trends; offers tutorials on HTML and Java; presents articles on authoring, design, and multimedia; and more.

- WebAIM. Visit this Web accessibility how-to site to ensure that individuals with disabilities can navigate your site. Read about why accessibility is important, view accessibility makeovers, access sample HTML code, and run a simulation to test your site. WebAIM also offers tutorials, a discussion list, articles, and more.
- Web Design Schools. This site is a comprehensive online directory of the best Web design schools and colleges. Users can quickly search its network of schools and easily request additional information. There’s no cost or obligation to use the Web Design Schools site or request additional information.
- WebDeveloper.com. Internet and Web development news, reviews, forums, and resources. Includes an extensive directory of Web-development tools, as well as job listings, and utility downloads.
- Winning Workplaces.org. Winning Workplaces is a not-for-profit providing information, training, ideas, consulting, and easy-to-use, affordable tools to help small and mid-size organizations create great workplaces. The Website includes feature articles, tool kits, employee surveys, and an online forum.
- ZDNet Developer. All the tools are here: Cut-and-paste Javascripts, link and HTML checkers, downloads, reviews, news, and Webpage primers. You'll also find articles on standards, multimedia, and usability.
